Though very similar, the Eastern and Western Screech Owls have slight color variations and can only be seen together in South Texas or Eastern Colorado. Eastern Screech Owls can be seen from the Atlantic Ocean to just east of the Rocky Mountains. Western Screech Owls live all along the western coast of North America, coming east as far as the western border of Texas. Both birds can be found as far north as Canada and as far south as Mexico. Neither owl migrates.
We’ve all heard owls hooting from dusk to dawn but did you know most of their hunting is done during the first four hours of darkness? This check series honors the beauty of screech owls.
